Track Development

Track Redevelopment

The Cranbourne Greyhound Racing Club is poised to lead a transformative infrastructure redevelopment that will
- Revitalise the greyhound industry;
- Enhance animal welfare standards;
- Boost economic growth; and
- Generate broad-reaching benefits for the local South East community and beyond.

Strategic Opportunity

The redevelopment of the Cranbourne greyhound track offers a strategic opportunity to position the greyhound racing industry at the core of one of Victoria’s fastest-growing areas, reinforcing Cranbourne’s role as a major racing hub and strengthening the economic and social fabric of the City of Casey.

The Cranbourne region already supports the largest population of greyhound trainers in the state, along with a substantial number of active dogs and race starts.

Economic and Community Benefits

Economic and Community Benefits: An independent economic review estimates that the Cranbourne track redevelopment will generate a $34 million increase in total expenditure. And a $23 million rise in value-added impact over the next five years. This investment is expected to create additional jobs taking the total to 297 full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs in the City of Casey by 2030.

Employment Growth: During both construction and ongoing operations, the redevelopment will create jobs across construction, event management, hospitality, security, and track maintenance sectors. Many of these roles will draw on local talent, creating accessible pathways into the workforce for Casey residents.

Economic Activity: The racetrack will stimulate demand across various local sectors, including pet food suppliers, veterinary services, hospitality, and retail, further strengthening Cranbourne’s economic ecosystem. Situated within a high-growth corridor, the racetrack provides essential facilities for training, racing, and breeding, thereby boosting the local economy through heightened demand for pet food, veterinary care, accommodation, dining, retail, and related services.
