Monster Fish will be crowned the 2017/18 Gippsland Carnival champion, regardless of where he finishes in Saturday night’s Group 2 Casey Steel Cranbourne Cup (520m) final.
Trained by Kate Gorman of Tanjil South, Monster Fish has an unassailable lead on 59 points, ensuring he will collect $14,000 in bonus prize money, while Jesaulenko (49 points), who is a reserve in the Cranbourne Cup, has sewn up second place and will collect a $4,000 bonus.
Poke The Bear is in the box seat to claim a $2,000 bonus for accumulating the third most points, however he could potentially be overtaken by Reckoning, depending on where the two greyhounds finish in the Cranbourne Cup.
The Gippsland Carnival incorporates the 2017 Sale Cup (650m) and Gippsland Carnival Launch (440m), which were both held on Boxing Day, as well as the 2018 Warragul Cup (January 13), Traralgon Cup (January 26) and Cranbourne Cup (February 10).
