Greyhound racing returns to Cranbourne tonight following the abandonment of the club’s race meeting last Wednesday night due to the state of the track.
Club and GRV Maintenance staff worked throughout the week and over the weekend performing remedial works in preparation for last Monday’s Qualifying Trial meeting, where 13 trials were successfully conducted.
“Standard remedial works being done leading into last Wednesday’s scheduled meeting didn’t go as expected, with the last mix of sand not to the club’s satisfaction, hence the decision to abandon the meeting in the interests of safety,” said Cranbourne GRC CEO, Tony Mitchell.
“Virtually every grain of sand has now been replaced, and we’ve had a good look at the track this morning, and it’s as good as gold.”
Prize money from last week’s abandoned race meeting was divided equally among the owners and trainers of the greyhounds that were scheduled to compete.
