Who’ll Be Crowned Victoria’s Best?
By Jack Richter
On Wednesday night we’ll see two heats of the Grade 5 Greyhound Racing Victoria Victorian Bred and the competition couldn’t be hotter.
The heats (races 5 and 6) will feature the likes of Jagman (Heat 1, Box 2), Addictive Riley (1,4), Sam Toocan (1,6), City Rambler (1,7), Good Judge Buddy (2, 4) and Turfman (2,2). All greyhounds in the heats not only can win the race but also the final.
Jagman’s form on paper doesn’t look great he has run against a lot of talented dogs and has performed really well.
Addictive Riley hasn’t raced much, but what he has shown is a great ability to compete and beat top dogs. He has placed 8 times in 14 races including 3 wins, one of those the wins was last week.
Trainer Chris Johannsen has three greys in heats. Jagman, Good Judge Buddy and Sam Toocan. Sam Toocan has performed really well of late having placed in it’s last three starts, but hasn’t won since November last year. He’s due.
Good Judge Buddy (heat 2, box 4) has been good of late, including running in the Ram Locksmith Final a few weeks ago.
Like Johannsen, John Carr has multiple runners in the heats with City Rambler in heat 1 and Turfman in heat two. City Rumbler will be running in his 50th race, but like Sam Toocan hasn’t won much in a while, but has recently been placing and could be hard to catch if he gets out well.
Turfman (heat 2, box 2) has been in indifferent form having been retired and running second in the last three races but has the ability to not only win this heat but also go on and win the final.
Other then the heats the other big event is whether Mighty Sprite (race 7 box 8) can win his 7th race in a row and it’s 16th straight race at Cranbourne.
Another excellent night of racing is to be had at Cranbourne on Wednesday.
